I have to admit that I often will put aside the “extras” especially when we are in a particularly busy or stressfull season of life. I ( who used to be an art teacher) am especially embarassed to say that art is often “pre-empted.” I am trying in 2010 to put more emphasis on the fine arts ( especially music and art) in our home school. We are doing some art instruction together, and one of my daughters has just started an online art program which she absolutely adores. Do you regularly include fine arts instruction? Tell me what your home school does.

A Run Past Van Gogh…
As a college student, I took a mission trip to the UK. While we were in London, we were given 15 minutes to tour the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square… 15 minutes!!! It just so happened that they have a Van Gogh on display, and I had the privelege to see one of his beautiful paintings of sunflowers. Well, let me rephrase that, I had the privelege to run past his beautiful work. But I was thrilled and so happy that I got to see this famous piece of art… you see I had “almost” gone to Savannah College of Art and Design… so art was a big part of my life.
As a parent, I want to instill in my children an appreciation and respect for art. I enjoy creating all forms of art, and try to pass this love for art on to my children. Many might think homeschooling art would be easy, it is arther difficult for us. The days get busy and time often slips away. However, I found a very helpful online art course that allows my cildren the flexibility of experimenting with art, learning some methodology, and playing art games. Art projects are suggested, and printables are available. As a very affordable art lesson alternative, we are loving this!!
